Summary / Role Purpose

This engineer will join as an Intern in the Mechanical Business Unit.


In this position, you will work closely with team developing python APIs for the Ansys products. The specific task will vary according to the candidate, but it is expected he/she will engage in the developing of the mentioned python APIs for any of the Ansys Mechanical products (MAPDL, LS-Dyna, etc). There is a strong interest in documentation, so the intern might be required also to help to build/enhance/expand the current documentation as well as its user cases and examples. These examples or user cases might require or use the candidate expertise in any of the physics fields: structures, dynamics, materials modelling, etc (candidates need to have at least an interest in these areas, but we are mainly looking for computer science profiles, able to demonstrate their ability in writing good code in a GitHub ideally, please indicate links on your CV).


This internship is a full time paid position for 6 months and should be done ideally in the final year of study.
This role can be remote or at an ANSYS office, but it might require some in-person training in Madrid. A GitHub profile is required to apply for this position.


Key Duties and Responsibilities

  • Learn the team’s software development processes and the problem domain. Develop software to improve specific areas.

  • Diagnose and fix code problems.

  • Deliver code and scripts that meet requirements on schedule. Ensure that code is efficient, scalable, maintainable, extensible, robust, and easy to understand.

  • Create unit, regression and/or system-level tests to thoroughly validate new features or changes.

  • Communicate clearly and work closely with manager, technical leads and other engineers to refine solutions and to describe changes that may affect others.

  • Learn and follow best practices in software engineering.


Minimum Education/Certification Requirements and Experience

  • Pursing a master level degree in Computer Science, Mechanical Engineering or a related field including coding skills

  • Proficiency in C++ or Python

  • Software development principals (git, unit testing, CICD)

  • Knowledge of the Linux operating system

  • Strong background in data structures, algorithms, and debugging

  • Ability to learn quickly and work closely with others

  • Interest in learning outside of his/her comfort zone.


Preferred Qualifications and Skills

Knowledge of the following areas are a plus:

  • Commercial software development, including build and test automation

  • Understanding of solid mechanics or fluids mechanics

  • Development, debugging and optimization of systems

  • Understanding of cloud (docker, Kubernetes, etc)
